Long Description:

Andrea Joki is a Cleveland-based painter whose kinetic language embraces gesture and geometry in distilling ideas of perception and sensory experience of place. Her work is informed through road trips, the dislocations of travel and the conversations she has along the way. She likes to think of her paintings as perfect failures through the friction in the aesthetic mash-up of styles. While making the work that triggers conversation about science, she is simultaneously interested in the human mind's deftness (or folly?) at bending rational thinking with a little bit of magic. Andrea is a recipient of Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award in 2015. She currently is a community artist in residence (CAIR) at Eastside International in Los Angeles.
