YOUNGSTOWN — The more everyone knows him, the more they know how humble he is.
He certainly was Sunday, standing with trainer Jack Loew in the shadows of the second floor. Below him, a short film featuring photographs of him training and fighting played before a few hundred people.
He paced and briefly spoke to media in attendance, sipping coffee in a gray sweatsuit. Pavlik hardly acknowledged his own voice in the film, explaining how he felt about the photographs and filling in the behind-the-scenes aspect of each image.
Photographers Robert K. Yosay and William D. Lewis watch the crowd at the Butler Institute of American Art as they watch a film introducing their images of Kelly Pavlik.
It was the opening reception of "The Path to Greatness: Images of Kelly Pavlik," featuring the work of Vindicator photographers William D. Lewis and Robert K. Yosay.
The exhibition at the Butler Institute of American Art includes 39 photographs and will be on display through Jan. 13.
At the reception, Loew and Pavlik both spoke. Afterward, lines formed so those in attendance could meet and shake hands with the middleweight World Boxing champion. Many took pictures of their children with the boxer, as he spoke quietly to every person who approached him.
The photographs show the hard-working side of Pavlik. Shots include him in the ring fighting, but also with family, on the scale and getting ready to practice at Loew's Southside Boxing Club.

Perhaps you should have wrote:
Author's Note: It in the spirit of full-disclosure, Valley24.com is actually just another department of the Vindicator, sharing employees and office space. And taking orders from Vindy managers.

Shame on you. That is very deceptive and misleading.

Well, sir or madam, I would've written that if it were the case. But it's not.

lies and lies...this says otherwise...

So, which part was I wrong about?

You don't know IF, or from WHOM, I take orders. Newsroom editors and Valley24 do not work together whatsoever, despite what you may think or may have heard. We're in a different part of the building and seldom (2-3 times a week) see each other.
It's totally false to assume one of the Vindicator editors has anything to do with Valley24.com. I appear on that directory, because -yes, it's true- I'm paid by The Vindicator. Hence, Valley24.com is intellectual property created by people on The Vindicator payroll.

Okay, I went out to get a cup of coffee (Circle K, not Starbucks) and came up with a good metaphor to explain how this works.
------
It's like FOX. There are many different outlets of Fox. Let's take, for example, Fox News and SpeedTV. If you work for either, you're paid by Fox. You're hired by Fox. But a producer of the O'Reilly Factor doesn't tell anyone at Car and Driver TV which cars to feature on the program. Likewise, an anchor for a NASCAR program on SpeedTV has nothing to do with a news show at Fox News.
--------
They are under the same umbrella organization. In their case, Fox, in ours, The Vindicator. Similar to WFMJ and The Vindicator - owned by the same people, but totally separate operations with separate newsrooms. Now, add in Valley24.com. We're a third newsroom under the same ownership, but don't have a working partnership with either the TV station or print company which are under the same ownership.
---------
By the way, if I were in the business of trying to trick, lie or manipulate any readers, I simply would've have put the note in there. But I thought it'd be polite, and the "right thing to do" if I let people know the same person signed all of our paychecks.

Geez Katie, calm down. No one mentioned anything about Newsroom Editors and you taking orders from them (I take it you are the queen bee at V24?). Your rambling is completely beside the point. According to your Xmas wish story (listing all your employees) and that Vindicator Directory and list of departments, V24 is a department of the Vindicator (presumably just as the Newsroom is). If we had a Venn Diagram here, The Vindy would be the big circle containing the small circle V24. You are the Vindicator. The Vindicator is you. What is the problem and the need for secrecy?

The above comment was written before I saw your 9:36 comment.

With all due respect, I don't buy it. Maybe I just don't understand? If you are not the Vindicator then why are you listed under the department page (WFMJ isn't). I see you and Sarah's news podcasts on Vindy.com all the time. Also doesn't your department also run Vindy.com (according to the department page)? In many ways I view your 9:36 comment as smoke and mirrors. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Your office infrastructure is confusing me.

I wish it were less confusing, but unfortunately that's just not the case. It'd make my world so much more wonderful (and more simple!) if it were so.
---------
The newsroom has their established entertainment department. We don't work together. They're nice people though. We've met before, but we dont' share info, sources, ideas, nothing. If Valley24.com was *truly* "THE VINDICATOR" then we'd work together, be hand in hand and collaborate on stories and projects.
------
We don't.
----------
We're totally different animals that get fed by the same hand.
---------
It would be logical if The Vindicator's newsroom and entertainment department and Valley24.com were one and the same. That would totally make sense. And, I can understand how that would be the logical assumption.
------------
But the complexities extend far beyond what we've reached even here. Sarah and I don't work for the newsroom. We used to, but you won't see our names in the paper anymore. Not for a long time before or after this post. We do the podcasts, occasionally report for Vindy.com, but it's - again - separate - from this big corporate situation known as The Vindicator. In some ways. Maybe not others. (For instance, newsroom reporters can have their work online and in print. Sarah and I can't. Newsroom editors give them assignments, not us.)
--------
I like your analogy about the Venn Diagram. Interesting, and right on some level, but as for the big picture, not really.
-------
I fear I'm talking myself in a circle, or I've totally bored you on this. It's just so complicated that I feel I could go on for days. If you're interested in the breakdown, e-mail me and we'll talk more. Otherwise, I don't know how many others in the world are concerned about the intricacies of all this.
