Local rockers make announcement at ruKus Festival

Local music scene staple Dim Star Shining announced during the Rukus Festival Saturday afternoon that they will be calling it quits.

"After four years of playing together, we've decided to end on a good note," lead singer Mike Gaitanis said.

The band currently includes Noll Hartman on lead guitar, Kevin Povec on rhythm guitar, Angelo Scordo on bass, Jeff Shood on drums and Gaitanis.

"We're all great friends and we figure it best to stop now, before it becomes just a band name with lots of different people," Gaitanis explained.

Each person in the band said they plan to pursue music in the future.

Gaitanis is heading to Nashville to pursue opportunities there, while Shood is moving to San Diego to go to school. Povec said he has put together a cover band, which is currently unnamed. Scordo is working on a solo side project. Hartman says he hopes to continue playing, but has no definite plans after Dim Star Shining.

The last show for the group will be Aug. 11 at Cedar's Lounge with Manifold Stud. They're currently looking for another act to add the bill, as Leo was originally slated but canceled.

A special addition to the last show will be the return of their original drummer, Heather Jurina of Tilt 360.

Members of Dim Star Shining say their latest EP is still for sale. Their MySpace profile also indicates a possibility of remixing and re-releasing their full-length album, "The Day After She Left."
