U Gotta Eat, U Can Has Delivery

By Katie Libecco

YOUNGSTOWN — Derek Caffe says he hopes his new food delivery service, U Gotta Eat, will help improve the quality of life for area residents.

“We want people to know we sell some sexy food. I know when you’re thinking of food, you’re not thinking of sexy. But, you have to eat it for sustainment of life. But, it’s also something people do for pleasure.”

Caffe says he got the idea on a Web site for entrepreneurs and thought, “Wow, we don’t have one of these services here in Youngstown.”

Last year, Caffe told Valley24.com that he was going to be a multimillionaire. By the time he’s 30, he’ll have started a major empire, he said. That 25-year-old man had made a custom fiberglass body for his 2002 Kia Spectra.

U Gotta Eat is latest vision for the future.

“To summarize what U Gotta Eat is, if you can’t make it out to the restaurant, the restaurant will come to you,” Caffe says.

According to their web site, delivery service is available to Youngstown, Boardman, Austintown, Canfield, Struthers, Liberty, Girard, Poland “and most areas in between.”

Caffe cited rising gas prices as one reason people use his service, but also says customers have found other reasons to call.

“We’re much more than a food delivery service. There’s so many situations that people have used our service for,” he says.

One example was an out-of-town family ordering a meal to be delivered to a bereaved loved one. One downtown Youngstown worker had a delivery meet him for lunch in Mill Creek Park. Caffe says some parents have food ordered for their children at home for the summer. A part of that program is having a password for the driver and kids, so they don’t open the door for strangers.

“We have so many little programs, so many ways people use our service,” Caffe said, noting the company’s small size helps them to be flexible for customers’ wishes.

There’s a $10 minimum for delivery, including a delivery charge ranging from $3.99 to $7.99. According to the web site, U Gotta Eat, “Accepts Cash, Credit or Debit card. Order securely over the phone. You will receive an itemized, printed receipt of your order. All first-time home deliveries must use credit or debit card, after which cash on delivery will be accepted.”

Full menus for the eight participating restaurants are available on the web site. They are:

• East of Chicago Pizza Co.

• Joe Restaurant

• Coney Island Hot Dog Express

• Great Harvest Bread Co.

• Kravitz Delicatessen

• Galaxy Seafood

• Station Square Ristorante

• Pizza Joe’s

Caffe says they’re working to add more restaurants, as they’ll only deliver food from places they have contracts with. He says those details are still being worked out. The company is also hiring drivers and dispatchers.

He says most people wouldn’t believe him, but he’s having fun with U Gotta Eat.

“I wouldn’t be doing anything else.”
