Do you like Grey Dealer?
It's hard not to when they bust out the "Legend of Zelda" theme in the middle of "Jaded Face." If you are a Grey Dealer fan, you have the opportunity to have them twice in one night.
Guitarist Jim Putnam says they will be opening for Away from Eden at Barleys. The show starts at 10 p.m. and they'll be rocking out their usual electric set.
If you've never heard Grey Dealer, or just don't care for their sound, you may change your mind after tonight.
When they're finished with their set at Barleys, they're packing it up and heading over to Salty Grogs. There, they'll be closing out a 3AP acoustic show.
Drummer Tim Harrigan says this is their first acoustic show, and they're excited about this new opportunity. He says the biggest difference is in the vocals, and they will be concentrating more on them.
“I'm actually looking forward to it,” Harrigan says. “We're going to have a lot of good harmonies. That's what we've been focusing on. They stick out more and you want to get people back to listen to those.”
Putnam says the double-booking was not an accident. He says they picked up the Barleys gig a while ago and when 3AP heard they were interested in doing acoustic sets, they asked Grey Dealer to close out the show.
“It is exciting,” Putnam says. “I'm the one who's most apprehensive about it. I had to borrow an [acoustic] guitar and I'm having to get used to this instrument today. It's going to be a physically demanding thing. Hopefully, I'll be able to see it as a warm-up.”
Putnam says if you've caught their electric set before, you'll be familiar with their first set tonight. He says the acoustic set will be much different, however, and people who saw them as being a harder rock band will see an entirely different side of Grey Dealer.
“I think a lot of the people who think we're metal will be surprised,” Putnam says. “I don't see our band as a metal band. I think they'll be very surprised if they come out.”
As for the long night ahead, Putnam says they're ready for it.
“Two shows tonight,” Putnam says. “I'm not gonna complain about it. It's my own town and I love this area.”
If you miss the acoustic set tonight, you can catch it again next Friday at Barleys.
