YOUNGSTOWN - University Pizzeria, 133 Lincoln Avenue, has hosted shows for more than a year, Saturday's show will be the heaviest yet.

Heaviest of Metal will begin at 8 p.m. with Horses Have People Teeth, followed by Gingerspittz, Album, Grand Fury and Rebreather will headline.

Entertainmentcoordinator Kyle Daley says all of the bands except Gingerspittz have played at University Pizzeria before.

"You never see all of these huge, local heavy metal bands on one bill - not even at VexFest," Daley says.

He says it came about because followers of the heavier bands kept asking for more shows.

"People kept asking, 'When's the next Rebreather show?' or 'When's Grand Fury playing?'" Daley says.

The staff at UPie was already on a mission to host bigger, festival-like shows.

"There was a rumor circulating that there wouldn't be a next VexFest after the last one. A lot of bands were unhappy," Daley says. "[Owner] Colleen [DiVito], [chef] Tank and I said, 'They don't do it, let's do one here.' We wanted to put it together so that every band got paid."

Daley says they did a trial of a bigger show by doing Oktoberfest, which included Away from Eden, Captain Braskey, DaBoondox, Fillmore Jive, Grand Fury, The Kellys, Raise The Cannon and The Young Stonians.

"We learned a lot from it," Daley says.

Following the October show, Daley says they began planning Heaviest of Metal in December, with a goal of hosting one big show every semester in addition to their weekly live bands. Daley says they host all kinds of music, including acoustic, hip-hop, indie rock, heavy metal and rockabilly.

"I don't think there's a style of music we haven't had down here," Daley says.

Also on Saturday, there will be The Totally AWESOME Retro 80's [Zombie] Dance Party at Tiffany's in Brookfield, Kelly Pavlik's title defense will be broadcast and The Zou's Rock Nouveau Festival at Cedars Lounge in Youngstown. Rock Nouveau this year includes SickAsMe, Sexy Pig Divas, La Vérité, Da Kreek, Fillmore Jive, Historians, The Realtime Digimob, Third Class, The Zou and The Sewing Machine War.

Daley says he's confident the followings of the bands at UPie don't conflict with other goings on that night.

Heaviest of Metal, Daley says, will also be the first time Grand Fury's new album is available for purchase.

The show is 18+ and tickets are $5 at the door. The show begins at 8 p.m.

Way to go! Rebreather is one of the best bands to ever grace the stage in Youngstown. Album and White Cadillac are blowing my mind as well. excellent group of bands.
