Staff report

SHARON, PA.

The second annual Red Phoenix Underground Film Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday at the former armory building, 49 S. Sharpsville Ave., with more than 60 short and feature films from across the globe.

Admission is $5 each day and grants the attendee access to all films showing that day. Offerings range from quirky shorts and music videos to action films and thrillers. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

The festival is co-directed by filmmakers Andrew Bard and Janet Llavina. owners of Neo Phoenix Studios.

“Being new to the area, I noticed Sharon’s art scene was really starting to grow, and I wanted to grow with it,” said Bard. “I enjoy being able to walk down the street and see that art has a very strong presence. Making the choice to have a film festival in Sharon was simple. I want to live in a city that embraces all the arts, including films. Film is one thing we see that is absent in Sharon, and we want to change that.”

Each day’s offerings are arranged into blocks of films, grouped as drama/romance, family friendly, comedy (for adults), action and sci-fi (adults only) and horror (adults only).
