music with a mission
Thursday, July 27, 2017
Music with a Mission, a music festival that will raise money to help the Rescue Mission relocate, will take place Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Magic Tree, 7463 South Ave.
Six bands – Redline, 80’s Proof, the Dickey White Band, Howard and the Point Five Band, Guys Without Ties and Simple Truth – will perform.
Admission is $10 (free for children under 12). The event will include a basket auction.
All of the proceeds will go toward the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley’s effort to move out of its current building and into a new building that it intends to build on a 17-acre plot of land on the South Side, behind Eagle Heights Academy (formerly South High School).
The Rescue Mission is currently located in an 87-year-old building on Martin Luther King Boulevard that is beyond repair and is often overwhelmed with families in crisis who need food and shelter.
It can house up to 165 persons at a time but has only three small bathrooms. Many patchwork repairs have been done over the years to fix leaks and deteriorating walls, but the building’s overall condition is poor.
