Model train layouts on display to public

Staff report

The massive model train layouts of the Youngstown Model Railroad Association will be on display to the public during the annual fall open-house days.

The club, at the intersection of North Raccoon and Four Mile Run roads, will be open Saturday, Sunday, Nov. 11 and 12 and Dec. 2 and 3. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. each day.

The YMRA is one of the few clubs in the country that has two complete displays, an O scale and the smaller HO. Both extensive layouts feature more than 100 scale miles of track.

The HO layout is currently undergoing renovation. The creation of a complete steel mill complex and its track work are in the process of being built.

The new passenger station that depicts the original home of the YMRA, the New York Central railroad station that was in downtown Youngstown, is complete, and the entire city area lighting has been redone in LEDs.

The O scale layout offers a special fascination for many as it brings back memories of the trains many had under their Christmas trees years ago.

An admission donation of $5 per person is requested (free for children 11 and under with an adult).
