Louis Zona, director of the Butler Institute of American Art, will give a free lecture at 2 p.m. Sunday that will highlight the works by prominent African-American artists in the museum’s permanent collection. These include works by Horace Pippin, Romare Bearden, Sam Gilliam, Robert S. Duncanson, Jacob Lawrence, Benny Andrews, Elizabeth Catlett, John Wilson and Richard Hunt. A 1943 oil on canvas painting by Pippin is shown above. The lecture will be in the Zona auditorium on the first floor of the museum, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown. The lecture is co-sponsored by The Links, an international volunteer service organization of professional women of color. Limited free parking is available in the Butler’s lot.
