The Harlem Globetrotters are continuing their record-breaking ways.
A few months ago, the legendary act gathered at a gym to take a shot at besting some of the basketball feats listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
They wound up setting five records that day. But it’s quite likely they could have set those records on any given day and on any given court.
What: The Harlem Globetrotters Fan Powered Tour
When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: Covelli Centre
Tickets: $30, $36, $43, $53, $66, $88 (fees may apply) at ticketmaster.com, by phone at 800-745-3000 and at the box office
The traveling wizards of hoops have a continuously changing roster, but the team has been a fixture in Youngstown for decades, visiting every winter.
They will keep the tradition alive when they visit Covelli Centre on Friday as part of their 2019 Fan Powered World Tour. Fans can expect to see the red, white and blue-clad players light up the court with trick shots and a whole lot of humor.
The world famous team’s record-breaking day came Nov. 8, which is Guinness World Record Day. The five records the team added to its resume that day brings its count of Guinness records to 21.
Highlighting the latest batch was the mark for longest somersault basketball shot. Team star Bull Bullard hit from an amazing 58 feet, 1.25 inches away from the hoop, while doing a complete backward flip.
The other records include the first-ever record set by one of the team’s female stars – Torch George – for most basketball under the leg tumbles in one minute. She repeated the feat 32 times in 60 seconds.
A third record was set by the Flying Globies, the team’s trampoline-dunk team, for most under the leg slam dunks in one minute by a team using a trampoline. The Globies did it 28 times.
The other records set that day are:
Most blindfolded basketball slam dunks in one minute: Zeus McClurkin (5).
Most behind the back three pointers in one minute: Zeus McClurkin (3).

Fans who catch the Globetrotters at Covelli Centre will not only be wowed in person; they’ll also get a chance interact with the team’s stars. There are more than 20 opportunities for fan interaction built into each Globetrotters game.
In addition to Bullard, George and McClurkin, the roster also includes Big Easy Lofton, Ant Atkinson, Hi-Lite Bruton, Hammer Harrison, Thunder Law, Firefly Fisher, Cheese Chisolm, TNT Lister and Hoops Green.
Before Friday’s performance, which starts at 7 p.m., fans can also secure a ticket to Magic Pass, the Globetrotters’ exclusive pregame event. Magic Pass gives fans access to the stars of the team, an opportunity to learn tricks, shoot hoops and take pictures on the court.
The Flying Globies will also be on hand at Covelli, entertaining during breaks in the game action.
