I remember when this place used to be Club Stratus,of course, that was over 15 years ago. The place is really nice inside, great customer service.Unfortunately, the only thing that I disliked about this place was when they charged me five dollars to get in the door. I would understand if they had something going on that night, but there was nothing special going on that evening. What most people don't know, most clubs that charge admission when is no entertainment is because some cop told them that if they charge cover, then the thugs won't come in. It's like they think that all thugs are broke.
I had a great time at this place.. I was just there this past Saturday for the first time since it has reopened and noticed a few changes that i like. Really friendly when i entered( also when we left). The drinks were great and my gf had the best Martini we've ever had (Paradise Peartini). I didn't mind paying the $5 dollar cover(guys only) because it had a great crowd. I disagree with Dr.Goldbloom, it does keep the thugs out. Even though it wasn't the busiest, i can see that it will be.
If you go to any other relatively large city you'll pay to get into any bar regardless of what is going on. Did it ever occur to you that they might charge a cover so they can stay in business! The bar business is hard enough and I think that if it also keeps thugs out at the same time then they should charge a cover every night. Any other club that same size in Pittsburgh or Cleveland would be charging $10-15 to get in. Its that type of mentality in this town that holds Youngstown back. I'm not a huge fan of the wedge, I've been there a few times, but I think that people in this town have been spoiled and thats why every bar has to sell drinks dirt cheap without a cover just to get people in the door...and thats also the reason why all our Youngstown bars are forced to change ownership every 3-5 years. If you want to go out to a safe bar with good drink specials, a good atmosphere, crowd, etc. then expect to pay a cover. If you don't then go a dive bar where you can't take a leak without continually looking over your shoulder.
on an up note, ive been enjoying the wrestling series that the wedge has been putting on. now i dont have to drive to cleveland to watch a four-team tag ladder match where two-hundred-pound men roll around on thumbtacks mere inches from my feet. sweeeeeet.
