Go Rob, GO!! This is awesome. I wish the inspiration for all of this hadn't been a summer of devastation, but I'm really happy that you're living healthier. I can't wait to come home and see you. I promise I won't try to make you go to the Lube or Yamato's. By the way, was Christopher Meloni even famous when we were teenagers? I bet you were really dreaming of, um, Robert Pastorelli?

I really enjoyed reading this! I don't think I understood the reasons that people would stay in Youngstown, until the last few years. And as katieeverybody pointed out it's fantastic when people make that choice and make a change, rather than just staying put because they don't know what else to do. Maybe it took leaving for me to appreciate that, and to appreciate the city. Whatever the reasons I left, I am truly rooting for Youngstown from afar, keeping updated on websites like this one. Youngstown has such a fascinating history of immigrants and others being creative and making new lives in a dynamic city. I hope this is the beginning of another such era of growth and open-mindedness. And I'm proud of you, Rob, for being a part of it!

This was a great blog, Rob! I agree that Jesus would definitely not call you a name like that (and that he might also tell you to stop shopping at Walmart, hahahahaha).
Thankfully Jesus is a patient dude and he'll have grace with the kids who represented him poorly. I'm a little relieved that it was a young kid who did this, rather than a grown adult. I certainly don't want to be held to everything I said in high school. Hopefully the kid will grow up and start living like his shirt professes he does.

I agree that Rob should blog more often. More blogs please!
I'm really curious who qjeg and his or her brother are, as I also went to high school with Rob.

I think YETI should be the term for very tall bears.

Hey, did anyone else see that the subplot on "Back to You" (The Kelsey Grammer/Patricia Heaton sitcom) last night was all about the news reporter covering Anthrocon. Good timing!

I'm not sure how this blog went from something to inspire weight loss to an advice column for people given bizarre sexual propositions. But, uh, I'll roll with it, because it's well-written and entertaining! I tend to shy away from these topics, but I'm morbidly curious about "mummification." I can't imagine how that might work, other than one person papier-mache-ing their partner. That would take some serious patience. Yikes!
Anyway, back on anthropomorphs and other sexual perversions, this blog reminded me of one of my favorite Onion headlines:

You mean the Snowsens aren't real?!?! [weeping]
Seriously though, shoppers' behavior at this time of year is frightening. Even something that is ostensibly about giving becomes a me, me, me competition to get there first, buy everything first, and damage the remaining inventory on the way out so nobody can come away with quite the same glorious spoils. For that reason I like going to the mall at the holidays when I have no shopping to do at all. It makes for the BEST people-watching. You could easily fill a year of blog entries from the characters and interactions you'll see.

I'm glad the show went well! I'd love to see the video. Can't wait for the reunion blog - and I KNOW you're glad you went!

Rob, thank you for being so honest. You've written something totally brilliant, which isn't new coming from you. But your willingness to be so open... that will change people. Thank you! I love you.
