So, I’m going to New York City week after next. I have been to New York two other times in my life, and they were pretty interesting times. The first time I went to New York, I met my grandfather. This was very memorable, because when I met him, he was only wearing red shorts that read “Red Hot Lover.” The next time I went to New York to go to my grandfather‘s funeral. This was memorable, because, well, my grandfather was apparently a mack daddy that had many girl friends that came to the funeral. There is one this worse than seeing your grandfather dead, and that is wondering how many people at the funeral your grandfather made out with, while wearing the Red Hot Lover shorts. This next trip I will be going to New York to perform in a play I directed called, “Lucasville; The Untold Story of a Prison Riot.”

The play is about a riot that happened in the Lucasville maximum security prison in 93. It started as a conflict between the administrators and Muslim prisoners over prisoner rights. It escalated to a riot. 9 prisoners and 1 guard were killed. It ended with 5 people being sentenced to death for the killings. The 5 people who were convicted, are actually innocent. You see, the investigation into the 10 deaths relied heavily on the testimony of people who received incentives to testify, like a shorted time in prison. Some of the people who had received such deals have come forward, in written statements, and said that they lied on the stand, and that the people convicted were not the perpetrators of the crimes. You would think that a witness admitting to perjury would be enough to over turn the conviction, or at least open a new trial, but nothing has happened. They still face execution for something they did not do. The play is a tool to get people interested in the Lucasville 5’s cases again. The goal is to get people to sign a petition asking Governor Strickland to give these men new trials.

How will this play turn out? I do not know. The practices are going very well, but anything can happen in live theater. I do know I am excited about it. I am excited because it is the first time I will be performing there. I am excited because I will be helping a good cause. I am excited because I wont be reminded of my grandfather’s sexuality. http://www. lucasvilletheplay. com/

NY is a great place to visit but if you are not used to a big city like it, then a visit is all you need. My husband is from the BX and believe me, he loves it, but always says he will never live there again unless he becomes a millionaire. Anyway, I am very interested in this play. I know someone that was involved personally and is now since released for some years. I find the judicial system one of the worst there is in some cases and for some races. I remember clearly about the riots and have since forgotten them. Goo, you are truly an artistic mastermind. I am really happy that you have decided to do a play about this situation. The bad thing is, that so many cases like this exist in the U S of Ass. You would think that America would want to clean up it's image by trying it's best to justice served, being that so much injustice exists, but it's all about the money. Hopefully, this will shed some light and spark some fire under the right persons asses to want to do something like, um, see justice done right. Keep up your good work and as always, let me know what I can do to help.
