Yesterday, Valley24.com received an e-mail from Teddy Panteles letting us know he'd be performing his usual every-other-Tuesday show at Cedars. A portion of it read:
"I wish everyone a good holiday. This Tuesday for Jazz Night at Cedars 9:30p - 1:30a will be Clifford Barnes filling in for Dan Murphy - organ, electric bass and Glenn Schaft on drums. Since Clifford's on board I've decided to bring my Washburn Montgomery Series guitar out and devote some of the night to the music of Wes Montgomery. Wes is the reason why I play jazz guitar and to me he was the essence of jazz guitar period."
Alright, pretty cool. Jazz before Thanksgiving seems like a good idea.
But today we received word he'd be joined by Sean Jones. Who's last engagement filled a pretty good portion of Stambaugh Auditorium. We don't know what he'll play or how many numbers he will play, or exactly what the plan is, but if you've been following jazz in the area or Jones, you know how great this show will be. In Teddy's e-mail about the show, it says having Sean play at Cedars "will feel like having him back."
The Mahoning Valley has been blessed in having a talented musician like Jones grow up performing here. Now, one of the most critically-acclaimed jazz trumpet players of our generation, he still comes home to play these types of shows. It'll be a great performance, for sure.
Valley24.com will be there, and hope you will be, too.
Check out our preview of his last performance in Youngstown formore information on Jones: Sean Jones is never far from home.
